So October's almost over...

...and I really couldn't let my favorite month go by without posting something so...

Here's a super cute pic of my dog by this year's pumpkin choice:

And this is a pic of an awesome haunted castle cake I made and decorated:

I thought it was pretty cool - if I do say so myself.

Also, just to make it clear...I AM STILL WORKING ON THE DOLLHOUSE.  The outside looks really awesome right now, so I'm pretty happy with the development.  I'll post pictures of it soon.

Until next time!  Oh, and one more thing...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

It's certainly coming along...

Well, I've made a lot of progress during this last week.  The roof is on, the tower attic is up, and I've painted the rooftop.

This is what it looks like as I'm typing:

Lookin' good, huh?  I've decided to tackle the dreaded shingling today.  It's going to be tedious work, but if I watch a good movie or something, it shouldn't be too bad.  Right?  Anyway, I've decided against staining and am just going to paint it using an "antiquing" method I read about online.  I'm supposed to put a base coat of paint down and then use a darker paint that's been watered down for a top coat.  I hope it turns out okay.  I would hate to have put in all this work just to have it get screwed up.  I'll just have to be careful and do a few test shingles first.

Also, last night I started on some more clay work.  I made part of my "wailing wall" (more on that to come later), and I made a medusa head inspired by a trip through the Hollywood Wax Museum in Hollywood, CA.  It creeped both me and my sister out, so I thought it would be an excellent addition.

I also made a lot of good buys this weekend:

-Some skeleton garland from Big Lots

-Cool sword charm from Hobby Lobby

-Mini books, bottles, and brooms

-Spanish Moss for the yard

-A gargoyle for the roof

Well, I guess I should get back to work!

Here's What I've Been Up To...

I've been working hard on the dollhouse on the weekends - painting, sanding, gluing...all that stuff.

Anyway, this is what it looks like at the moment:

I didn't intentionally leave out all of the work I did between the first posted pics and this.  My camera just sucks and doesn't work all of the time.  Here are a few pics of my hard work...

Painting everything was painstaking.  I got it all done in one day because I just wanted to be finished with it.  I watched some good movies, though - Interview with the Vampire and Dracula.  After those were finished, I was so tired, I didn't care what was on the TV.

I'm just glad this part is over.  My back was killing me by the time I had all of it finished.  Whew!  My hands were a little achy afterward, too.

But enough complaining...I'm still having fun.  I'm excited to begin decorating, but I've still got quite a ways to go.

Oh!  And just in case you're thinking, "Well, that doesn't look too scary so far," I'm not finished.  I'm going to try to make it look a little more haunted house-like.  I just needed to get my base colors down.

I've also visited my parents since my last post and have brought back things from my old dollhouse.  I'll post pictures of those soon.

This is so much fun!

So very - VERY - sorry...

I assure you that I'm still working on my dollhouse. I'm just horrible at posting updates. I always think I'll just post something tomorrow, but you know what? Tomorrow keeps getting put off. I'll stop procrastinating and will put up new pics soon.

Construction: Day 1

Well, I bit the bullet and started building the house. I did a complete inventory to make sure all the pieces were there. I couldn't think of another good reason to put it off. It's coming along quite nicely, I think, as you can see from the picture below.

It hasn't been too difficult to put together so far, but I'm sure the rest of the house won't be as easy. I'm really excited to begin decorating, but that's probably not going to start for a few weeks so I'm sorry if my posts aren't very entertaining for a while. I'll try to spice it up as much as I can. :)

Guess What I've Got...

A Dollhouse!!!!! I bought my awesome new dollhouse today from Hobby Lobby, my go-to choice for all things crafty. I'm very happy with it.

See how I happy I am? Now all I have to do is get started painting it, assembling it, and furnishing it. I had to open the box just to see what I'm up against. It seems pretty straight forward and complicated all at the same time. I'm not sure how long this will take me, but I look forward to the whole process.

Well...except for the shingles. The shingles are going to be a real pain.

As you can probably see, this dollhouse is a different version of the picture I put up in an earlier post. It's actually just the Victorian version. I'm not sure what is really different other than the color on the box, but I really don't care. I don't plan on it being too recognizable when I'm finished with it anyway.

IT HAS BEGUN

So it's Sunday.  I'm always bored on Sunday.  I haven't bought my dollhouse yet, but it was on my mind today.  I decided to start working on some of the clay pieces that I need for the project.

Here's a nice pic of my hands hard at work on a tombstone:

Here's one of my hands just showing that the work was fun AND messy:

And here's a picture of my pieces while they're drying:

So I ended up with 4 headstones, 3 pumpkins, a weird face thing (I was just playing around and thought it was cute), a brain, a severed arm, a severed head, a severed leg, and a 2 piece lake monster.  I'm really excited to start painting them, but I'm patiently waiting for them to dry at the moment.  I thought I did very well considering the only other thing I've made out of clay was an alligator that, in my opinion, looks very cute and not at all threatening.

Anyway, Hobby Lobby didn't fail me this week.  I've got my 40% off coupon in my wallet and will pick up my dollhouse tomorrow after work.  I'm very excited!

The Plan

I decided on the dollhouse I want. I'm planning on getting the Allison Jr. dollhouse from Hobby Lobby when they have a 40% off coupon. These are pictures of what it normally looks like. Pretty, huh? Well, not for long...
THE PLANNING PERIOD HAS BEGUN!!!

I was bored on Sunday and wanted to plan so I converted the pictures to coloring book format and had a little forgotten fun with my markers and crayons. (I'm sorry they're not in color. I used the scanner at work and didn't know it didn't transfer correctly. Just use your imagination, people!)
Anyway, I'm planning on putting the whole thing on plywood and making a yard full of monsters, pumpkins, and a graveyard. The inside was a little harder to plan out on paper because I feel like that will be more of a make-it-up-as-I-go thing. I still drew a few things in the inside, though, including a hanging man, a message in the mirror, and a severed head in the fridge. We'll see if they make an appearance in the actual house.
I'm anxiously awaiting our Sunday paper. It's only Thursday so it's going to be some wait.

My New Project

So I was lying in bed one night, and for some reason, thoughts of my old dollhouse popped in my head. I thought to myself, "I really miss having a dollhouse. It sucks that my old one was ruined." Then I asked myself, "Who says I can't have one now?"

I really don't care that I'm 25. You don't have to be a kid to have toys.

My interests run high to the frightening. I absolutely love love love Halloween (seriously...I think about it all year long), and I am drawn to anything the least bit creepy or scary. That's why my dollhouse will not be an average cutesy-pie, sweet-as-sugar girly thing. No. My dollhouse is going to be filled with monsters, ghosts, witches, vampires, and anything else I want to throw in there.

You're about to be taken on a journey. You're about to be shown the darkest parts of my mind. You're about to witness the making of...

LINDSEY'S DOLLHOUSE OF HORRORS!!!

Enjoy!
